Welcome to the 2023 edition of The Great Escape!
This year we've moved our popular event to September as the perfect way to close your summer riding season.
The 209km route will take you from the heart of London to the rolling countryside of Essex and back via quiet roads and picturesque villages.
This year we're partnering with our friends at the fantastic Via Atelier in Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross where our ride starts and finishes - so join us there for a pre-ride breakfast and post-ride celebrations.

The Great Escape is a 209km reliability ride organised by Islington Cycling Club, under the
regulations of British Cycling.
Our ever popular event is back for another year and with a new date in September, it's the perfect way to close your summer riding season.
This year we're partnering with Via Atelier, in Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross where the ride starts and finishes.
The route
The 209k route takes you from central London through the rolling countryside of Essex, with an total elevation of 1,789m. The route starts in King's Cross in central London, before heading out to the quiet lanes and picturesque villages of Essex. There's a choice of cafe stops In Blackmore (46k) or The Bakehouse (52k) and ICC's feed station in Great Dunmow will be open on both the outward and return legs (75k and 141k).
The event starts at 8am with groups leaving at 2 minute intervals.
*Please note that the route has been altered from previous years to accommodate our new start and end point at Via.
