Grass Track Go-Ride by Beacon Cycling Academy

Track , Birmingham – Wednesday, 28 Jun 2023

Event Summary

Event Overview

Who? Open to young riders aged 5-12 who have developed some skills.

What? Two training race sessions for young riders, leading up to fun racing. Riders will be prepared for the BSCA Regional Grass Track Championships on 8th July. The emphasis will be on fun plus developing skills and fitness.

When? Wednesdays 28 June and 5 July, 17:30-18:30.

Where? Queensbridge Playing Fields, Moor Green Lane, Birmingham, B13 8NE.

Why? This is the same venue and format we'll be using for the 2023 BSCA Regional Grass Track Championships on 8 July, so it will give riders a chance to preview the venue and hone their skills for the event.

What equipment do I need? An off-road bike (smooth road tyres won't grip); helmet; gloves; clothing that can keep you warm enough – but not so you get too hot putting an effort in; layers are good. Grass isn't the same as tarmac, so tyres are worth considering. They need some tread. A good test is to use a 5p. Does the tread go up to the dotted line? If so, that’s OK.

What if I haven’t got a bike like that? Email organiser and we can sort it out.

How much? £2 per session.

For the young riders, a parent/carer must be present. Please complete a consent form (DOC) for all riders and e-mail to academy@beaconrcc.org.uk in advance.

About the Event

Info for Riders

Beacon Cycling Academy are hosting the 2023 West Midlands Grass Track Championships on Saturday 8th July. There will be 2 Go-Ride events leading into the date on Wednesday 28th June & Wednesday 5th July.

The event takes place on the field which is accessed from Moor Green Lane. The best thing to do is head for Wizards Walk B13 8NG (yes really!). The entrance to the field is just next to this side road off Moor Green Lane.

Please do your ‘M’ check. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qtx60bcNk0

It might be wet. Please check that tyres are suitable for use on grass. They will need some grip. Smooth road tyres are not good. You can do a check by using a 5p coin. You should be able to put the coin into the tread of the tyre. Does it go down as the dotted line? That’s ok.
