Event Summary

Event Overview

Back for a second year, following the very successful 2022 event. Wylam on Wheels 2023 is organised by a local cycling group, The Wylam Sprockets. This year four routes are available. All routes start and finish in the village of Wylam in the beautiful Tyne Valley. The event is the ultimate in inclusive cycling. This is a fundraising event for the Wylam Community Playing Field Association, a local charity which maintains the popular Jubilee Playing Field in Wylam.

4 routes are available:

1. Couch to 25 km route around the Tyne Valley. Suitable for the casual cyclist and all types of bike. All on quiet roads.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/89382692

2. 60km Challenger Route road route including the 3 hill climbs: Hedley on the Hill, Kiln Pit Hill and Slaley (743 m ascent).

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/84863854

3. 100km Super-Challenger Route is a new addition this year. This is for serious cyclists (1432 m ascent) including the steep climbs out of Blanchland village.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/84863334

4. Waggonway on wheels ran as a separate event last year. This year it is on the same day as the other routes. This is entirely off-road along the recently resurfaced Wylam Waggonway. This event is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities. Any types of bikes are welcome, including adapted bikes for wheelchairs. There will be 3km accessible course along the Wylam Waggonway for participants to follow. Participants can do as many circuits of the route as they like!

The routes will be clearly signed with marshals at key points. There will be feed stations on all routes and all riders can celebrate their achievements with a delicious homemade afternoon tea at the finish line on the Jubilee Playing Field in Wylam.
