Event Summary

Event Overview

In celebration of 50 years of MDL, 50 members of the marine industry will be aiming to raise £50,000 for Dreamflight by riding the famous route around the Isle of Wight. Since their first trip in 1987, Dreamflight has allowed over 6,000 children to experience a 'holiday of a lifetime'. It is a fantastic charity, and the industry has a deep association with it.

We're looking for riders! If you've ever thought about riding this iconic route, here is your chance. You'll roll out from MDLs Ocean Village Marina in Southampton in early hours of Saturday 30th September, catch the Red Funnel ferry over to Cowes, then enjoy the wonderful scenery that the island has to offer. It's a glorious route that will last long in the memory. Full details can be found in the ABOUT section, and you can sign up today by hitting ENTRY FEES & RIDES.

The event has been sponsored by MDL Marinas and by Boats Group.

About the Event

Info for Riders

The event:
This is a non-competitive event organised by the leisure & commercial marine industries, and it is open to all who wish to join in! The cycle route around the Isle of Wight is simply glorious. Indeed, the long blast along Military Road at the bottom of the island is one that you will remember forever. You'll need a good quality road/mountain bike, plenty of water, and lots of enthusiasm! If you are relatively new to this, there will be experienced ride leaders on hand, and we'll be stopping along the way for coffee, cake, and other important things.

The schedule:
You start from Southamptons Ocean Village, from where it is a 5 minute ride to the Red Funnel ferry terminal. Once in Cowes, you'll follow the IOW Cycle Route either clockwise or anti-clockwise as determined by the weather. We'll be back in Cowes in time to catch the 1630 ferry home. Back on the mainland, we'll have photos and beer in Ocean Village, before the chance to recover on Sunday.
