The Icebreaker Series is back! This seasons annual Icebreaker, at Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, will include 3 rounds of endurance based Omniums for youth riders. Each round includes Scratch, Elimination and Points races for each category. Boys and girls will be racing separately.

Medals will be awarded after each round and  British Cycling points will be awarded. Icebreakers are an ideal opportunity for competent and confident youth riders to enjoy a taste of competition on the indoor velodrome. Given current circumstances around Covid, young people will need recent experience riding on a velodrome, ideally indoors.

The organiser will accept riders on a first come, first served basis and/or by entrant locality. 

COVID-19 guidelines: 

- Masks to be worn on entry in to the velodrome and whilst moving around.

- No spectators in the track centre.

- Maintain social distancing where possible.

Covid mitigations will be in place throughout the events - we are continuing to follow and monitor government guidelines. 

Info for Riders

Youth C riders and Youth B girls will complete their omnium during the Saturday morning (10.00am start). Youth B boys and all Youth A riders will compete in the afternoon (1.00pm start).

Events will be endurance based and aimed at competent and confident track riders. If your indoor race experience is limited, please contact the organiser in advance for guidance. There will be 3 events per category; Scratch, Points and Elimination.

No disc or deep section (50mm+) wheels will be allowed for Youth categories.

Non riders and supporters are encouraged to use the stands (note - one adult per family allowed to limit numbers in the building). This adds to the atmosphere and allows young riders to develop their experience of race day organisation. There will be commissaires and coaches in attendance to assist any rider with kit or other challenges!
