About the Event

We are putting on velodrome sessions are York’s outdoor track. These are a series of coached sessions for riders aged 9 to 16 years old.

Track bikes are provided as part of the session cost. These bikes have flat pedals so please make sure your child has suitable footwear (no cleats). If a child has their own track bike they are encouraged to use it for these sessions and can use their choice of pedals and footwear.

Helmets are compulsory and you must bring your own – no helmet, no ride. Glovers / track mitts are also required.

Please make sure your child has suitable clothing for the weather as there will be times when they are not riding. It is advisable to wear clothing that covers the arms and legs. Please make sure they also have access to food and drink. Bags can be left in the centre of the circuit.

We have organised two sessions each evening. Please read the information below regarding timings and the aims of each session:

First Session (Beginners and Novice) – arrive 5.45pm, start 6pm, finish 7pm

Aimed at riders who are new to velodrome or have limited experience. Riders should already be confident riding a bike. The coach will help the riders learn the basics of track riding and develop their confidence and skills.

Second Session (Experienced Riders) – arrive 7pm, start 7.15pm, finish 8.15pm

Aimed at riders who are experienced at riding velodrome and who are looking to get more track time as well as developing their skills further.

Riding on the velodrome is very different to riding on the road, and ultimately the coach will have the final say on which sessions a rider should be in. Places are limited and if you have a query regarding which sessions your child should be in, please email the organiser.
