Cold Dark North ' Reliable Ride '

Reliability Trial , Kirkby Lonsdale – Sunday, 15 Mar 2020

Event Summary

Event Overview

NEW DATE - 15 March - the "ReRunReliableRide"...

This early season ride is a challenging but beautiful 100km with 1,000m of climbing (60 miles / 3,300 feet). It's open to all, but it's a reliability ride, not a sportive or an audax. You'll be on your own out there, with friends.

Steady away from the sign on at Devil's Bridge in Kirkby Lonsdale (a skimming stone's throw from the famous Ruskin's View) - we'll climb gently through Rigmaden and the rolling Lune Valley, Howgill Lane and the stunning Lune Gorge before passing the Heart Shaped Wood.

Skirting past Tebay and Orton, the route takes us out onto Ravenstonedale and then down through deserted lanes to the vast and empty Wild Boar Fell, Outhgill, Boggle Green and Mallerstang. Then a right turn at Garsdale Head and over 20km of near constant descending to Sedbergh. From there we'll roll into Gawthrop and up the last major climb of the day to be met by beautiful Barbondale in all its glory.

There's no "official" caf stops on our Reliable Ride, but the route passes close to three of our favourites - the Orton Scar Cafe, The Three Hares in Sedbergh and lastly The Churchmouse in Barbon. After the last of these riders will have just 5km to get back to the start.

The ride is registered with British Cycling and riders will be asked to sign in at the start before 10am. We'll be there to meet you on the way back up until about 3pm. All profits from the £5 entry fee will be used exclusively to fund prize money for Cold Dark North's races in 2020.

A bit about Reliability Rides:

Reliability rides are for all abilities. Ours will have no organised start, with riders setting off when they choose and riding with whomever they choose. We only ask that you respect our local roads and other road users by riding in sensible sized groups of no more than 10 people, please.

The route is not signposted. We strongly recommend you download the route to have on your phone or bike computer – it’s on Komoot herehttps://www.komoot.com/tour/105648313, or you can download the GPX directly fromwww.bit.ly/ReliableRide.
