Event Overview

Women and Girls Rider Developments Sessions provide a dedicated coaching environment for females wanting to improve their cycling performance.

All sessions are delivered on a traffic-free closed road circuit delivered by British Cycling Coaches to help you:

  • Ride with friends or other riders
  • Learn about group riding and etiquette
  • Develop bike handling techniques
  • Develop cycling fitness

These sessions are designed to be technically and physically challenging in a safe, fun and supportive environment.

Non British Cycling members are welcome to attend one session but membership is encouraged to attend further sessions: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership.


U16 Girls Development Session

 

Ages: 7yrs to 16yrs

 

Duration: 10.30am – 3pm


Level

Riders may be split in to groups, selected on experience and ability if the number of coaches allows.


* Please note: ALL participants must already be competant bike riders. All riders must be able to follow instructions and must want to take part in coached cycling activities. Unfortunately we are unable to take novice cyclists, i.e. those who cannot yet ride a bike.

What to expect

10.30am – 1.00pm
A Road Cycling session on the track with a mid-morning break.

You can expect to practice some or all of the road race skills below during the session:

  • Group riding
  • Following a wheel
  • Race starts
  • Sprints
  • Attacks and counter attacks

You’ll also get to take part in some race scenarios to put your skills in to context.

 

1.00- 2pm
Lunch break. Please bring a packed lunch or money to buy lunch from the café.

 

2 - 3pm
An indoor workshop (content TBC)

About the Event

Info for Riders

All riders are required to:

  • Strongly consider becoming a British Cycling Member https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership 
  • Sign-on and be ready 10 minutes prior to start of the session.
  • Bring a freewheel bike (a hybrid, road or cyclocross bike is best) in good working order with two functioning brakes. Anyone with a bike considered unsafe will not be allowed to take part.
  • Wear a helmet at all times whilst on the bike.
  • Wear gloves. 
  • Dress appropriately for the weather conditions and bring spare layers (including waterproofs).
  • Bring a change of comfortable clothes and trainers to wear during the workshop session.
  • Bring a packed lunch (or money for lunch from the cafe), drinks/snacks for the duration of the  practical session.
  • Fill out a consent form and return to organiser ahead of the session via email. Please use attached form.
