Event Summary

Event Overview

After the success of the 3rd annual event of the Royal British Legion Northern Ride in June 2018, we are pleased to announce the ride for 2019, on Saturday 22nd June!

About the Royal British Legion Northern Ride:
The Royal British Legion Northern Ride had its flag ride in 2016 with 72 riders and has gone from strength to strength increasing to 112 riders in 2017 and 140 riders in 2018. The numbers are capped so the committee can accommodate the increases, but we expect 180 places to be available for 2019.

Sign up is expected to be open in September and will CLOSE when we reach our quota or on April 6th 2019, when the shirt order is to be submitted.

The Ride is organised and run by a group of volunteers, not working for the charities, whose purpose is to to raise awareness in the North of England of the work our Armed Forces and Veterans undertake and the support they require. Our aim is also to raise money for the 2 charities; Royal British Legion, along with Phoenix House Rehabilitation Centre, Catterick Garrison, who also host the lunch stop on the day for the ride. These are our 2 official charities for this event and all monies raised will be split between them.

You will be asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £50 and there is no maximum! :o)

All riders will receive a Bespoke Cycling Jersey to wear on the day, (so when you sign up you need to advise shirt size as per sizing chart at the bottom of this text) and be presented with a Bespoke Medal at the presentation at the end of the day. There will be food and drinks available at the finish, along with the lunch stop at Phoenix House.

There are 2 planned routes: 100 miles for experienced / club riders and 70 miles for less experienced riders. Both will start at the same location (Sporting Lodge Hotel, Stainton, Teesside) and finish 1/4 mile from the Hotel at the Army Centre at Coulby Newham. The Riders doing the 100 mile route will leave at 08:00am and the riders doing the 70 mile will leave at 9:00am (TBC).

Morning and Afternoon Refuelling Stops will be at Hornby.

The Medal Ceremony at the end of the day is supported by Royal British Legion Veterans in full uniform, along with representatives from the Royal British Legion, and the Mayor of Teesside, Ben Houchen. There are special presentation prizes (chosen by the committee from specific categories) along with medals for all riders.

These are the links to the routes from the ride this year, 2018. These may change slightly for 2019, based on our organising team riding the routes nearer to the ride, but we will update them here.

PLEASE NOTE: This IS the European size chart, once you have signed up please message us with which size you require. You should be aware that this is a sport cut so it will be a relaxed fit, it’s not an aero cut shirt. Please also note that all shirts are the MENS SIZE - for all females please order ONE SIZE DOWN off the Mens Chart. Cut off for ordering your cycling jersey is April 6th 2019., when SIGN UP will CLOSE, or beforehand if we reach our quota of riders, so signing up sooner is advisable. Thanks
