Event Overview

Thanks for considering our event. We are the Scottish Borders Cycling Development Group, a voluntary group of officials from lots of local clubs. We are supported by Live Borders who assist with kit and extra staff for the race day, we are all trying to increase oportunities to cycle in the Scottish Borders by giving up some time and we will need help with marshals this year. If you can help please email chris@bordercycling.co.uk

Event Overview:

Fun Event:

On Friday the 7th there is a fun event for young children to have a shot of riding in a group. This is not a race with prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. and parents may assist their riders around a scaled down XC course on ground suitable for small wheeled bikes although it will not be flat ground.

Championship Day.

Race entry is only available to those riders enrolled in a school within the local authority region of The Scottish Borders. These may be state or privately run schools. Races will be split by (2018/2019) school year. Children that have been held back  year or who are in composite year groups will race in their school enrollment year.

I.E. a P4/5 who would otherwise be in P5 will race P5 etc. unless dispensation is sought from the race organiser in advance.

This is a grass roots cross country event held at Bowhill House, near Selkirk. The trails will be a mix of park track and single track trail and riders will need to be confident riding in a group and on uneven ground. A bicycle in good working order will be required, it must have two working brakes and although gears are not essential the course has been designed for mountain bikes with 5 or more gears and includes relatively steep hills. For this reason, riders under primary 3 are not permittedin the championship event.

Places for top 3 boys and girls in each year group will be awarded with trophies or prizes. Top girl and boy in each year group will be the Live Borders regional champion.

Points are awarded to all finishers within the top 3 in every race and the school with the most points wins the Scottish Borders XC Championship Trophy. There is one trophy for high school, currently held by Peebles High School and there is one trophy for primary schools, currently held by Priorsford Primary School.

About the Event

Info for Riders

All riders must be in attendance at Schools within the Scottish Borders to be elligble for medals.

Medals will only be given out during official podium ceremonies and will not be posted after the event. As well as 1st to 3rd, spot prizes will be awarded for good sporting conduct, closest lap time to a mystery time and as deemed worthy by the event organiser or marshals.

We do everything we can to ensure the race is as cheap to access for our riders and we have found that posting medals in the past has caused our voluntary group to lose money on this event.

Race information:
Championship races may contain mixed genders although boys do not compete against girls: Riders will be set off in year groups but one gender will go first by 1 minute. Awards are only given for riders from the Borders for 1st,2nd and 3rd girl and boy in each year group. Other riders may receive a spot prize if they are lucky, this would be anounced during the podium ceremony.

All race day timings are approximate.
