The SD Sealants Junior Tour of Wales 2018

Road , Brynmawr – Friday, 24 Aug 2018

Event Summary

Event Overview

Five stages, four jerseys, one bank holiday weekend and some of the best racing roads in the UK. The 2018 SD Sealants Junior Tour of Wales builds on the success of last year's edition to form the pinnacle of the BC Junior Men's Road Series.

Following the four day format pioneered last year, the race gets underway during the evening of Friday 24th August with the traditional prologue TT now with the exciting town centre start.

Saturday's stage 2 will echo last year's near 120km, challenging route which featured exciting racing throughout, and saw Wheelbase-Cabtech's Will Turner pip VC Londres' Lewis Winfield in the Rhigos Mountain-top sprint finish

Sunday morning sees the familiar, but never easy, windswept Bryn Bach Park circuit test the riders' mettle while the afternoon's flat stage returns to Monmouthshire and gives the fast men the chance to shine.

Monday's queen stage culminates at the now legendary climb of the Tumble, but the route might contain some surprises for 2018. There is something for every type of rider - but only the best will triumph.

With 2017 winner Tom Pidcock, King of the Mountains Fred Wright, and Green Jersey Rhys Britton already making their mark on the Under 23 ranks, the stage is set for the classes of 2000 and 2001 to don Yellow, Polka Dot and Green. Last year's best first year, Blue Jersey Ben Healy, will start the race with number 1 on his back, but he will have to be at his very best to climb that final step of the podium. With enquiries from international teams already coming in, the competition is sure to be tougher than ever.

Big thanks go to our title partners SD Sealants, now on board for the third year, and with continuing support from Zappi Clothing, Champion System, Costain Construction, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Monmouthshire Council, Cwmtillery Glass Centre and Monmouthshire Council.
