Event Overview

Welcome to the 4th edition of the Cote-de-Holme Moss Sportive.

Organised by Holmfirth Cycling Club in association with The Bridge Public House, Holmbridge, this tough sportive has become established as an annual 'must do' on the sportive calendar.

Based at the foot of the iconic Tour de France cat 2 climb of Holme Moss, in Holmbridge Village near Holmfirth the route heads towards Holmfirth, Meltham and Marsden following the route of the Tour de Yorkshire.

Stunning scenery and beautiful roads lead to the first major challenge of the route begining in the town of Slaithwaite: the Cote de Scapegoat Hill....a test of the legs and lungs !

The route then splits allowing those riders with legs of steel to continue to Steele Lane -  a cobbled climb with bags of character...this is included in the longer 'Massive' route.

The shorter 'Little-Un' continues to the first feed station which offers stunning views over the valley and of Holme Moss in the distance.

Both routes continue via a flowing descent into Denshaw and then climb the picturesque Greenfield Road past Dovestone Reservoir with the Indian Head rock formation on the skyline.

A brief feed stop at event HQ for both routes and then the major challenge - the ascent of the iconic Holme Moss.... enjoy the views over Holmfirth and towards Emley Mast in the distance.

Get your breath back if you can on the breathtaking switchback descent to the Woodhead pass and then up again !

The routes diverge again with the 'Little-un' taking a left over the moors towards the finish.

The 'Massive' continues to follow the Tour de France route across to the 'Strines' - legendary training ground for the local hardmen !

The roads over the Strines are real 'Carling' type tarmac - silky smooth and again surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery.

More water and feed stops en-route (you'll need the one after Jawbone Hill !) and then a return to the event HQ and finish via Millhouse Green and the unmistakeable wind farm above Penistone, then over Cartworth Moor for the final descent to the finish.

So you have the choice and luxury of all of the following:

    • Holme Moss 'Massive' (The Leg Breaker) 141 Km and  3,300 M of ascent !
    • The 'Little un'  a shorter route covering 84 Km and 1,957 M of ascent.
    • Both routes follows roads used by the 2014 Tour de France and the 2015/ 2017 Tour de Yorkshire
    • GPX route data
    • both routes climb the iconic Holme Moss.
    • full support and backup

Info for Riders

Holmfirth CC are committed to developing cycling and cycle sport and proceeds from the event go directly to assisting young riders.

The 'Cote de Holme Moss Sportive' allows HCC to donate directly to the Dave Rayner Fund.  We aim to build on this with the 4th and subsequent editions of the event.

Previous editions of the event have had chip timing and a timed ascent of Holme Moss - experience has shown us that riders aren't too bothered about this - most have the benefit of Strava and their own method of recording route timings, plus we have had issues with our timing supplier's reliability producing results so for 2018 we have decided to run the event without official timing - after all - it's not a race !

Entry fees are lower to reflect this.

All riders will receive a commemorative trophy and complimentary event photographs.

Thank you for your entry and for supporting our youngsters.

Enjoy the ride !

Registration opens at 0700 and will take place in The Bridge Public House.

Please arrive in plenty of time to register.

Start time for the Massive and Little'un Routes are between 0800 and 0900.
