Event Summary

Event Overview

The Banks's Round the Wrekin 2018 sportive is now open for online entries. We are keeping the event venue, routes and distances the same as 2017 with Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club being the ideal venue to head out into the Staffordshire/Shropshire countryside whilst taking in the hills of the Long Mynd, Stiperstones and The Wrekin.

Supported by cycling legend Hugh Porter MBE, four times world champion. Hugh has kindly agreed to ride one of the routes on the day. The sportive will raise essential funds for local charity, Compton Hospice, with additional support from Fred Williams Cycles Ltd and Andy Dawson from RideVentures.

A choice of three routes/distances will challenge all levels of rider from the experienced to the beginner:

The Short Route is a gentle 24 mile ride around quiet lanes intended for all types of riders.

The Standard Route is a hilly ride through Shropshire and over the Wrekin, for fit riders who cycle regularly.

The Epic Route is a serious challenge with lengthy, steep hills to climb which will stretch experienced and well trained cyclist.

Minimum Age - 16 for the Epic, 13 for the Standard and Short - we can make exceptions for experienced junior riders, get in touch to discuss.

Under 18's must have a parental consent form signed and under 16's must be accompanied by a fully participating parent or guardian. Please read our full T&C's before entering .

Types of bike - drop-handlbar racing bikes, hybrids, touring, bromptons/commuting, mountain, tandems all permitted. Not allowed - trikes, recumbents, unicycles, electric bikes.

All riders must wear a cycling helmet on the sportive.

Registration times:

Epic 07.30 - 08.15am

Standard 08.15 - 9.15am

Short 10.15 - 11.00am

Start times:

Epic 8.15 - 8.45am

Standard 9.00 - 9.40am

Short 11.00 - 11.30am.  This is a change to the published start time which has been made to mitigate the clash of routes with another cycling event, called the Lapierre Tour of the Black Country, in consideration of rider safety.

Online entry is now closed for this event, however, you can still enter with prior agreement by emailing your interest to fundraising@comptoncare.org.uk until midnight on Thursday 17th May.  The cost is £5 extra per route, and there will be a designated sign-in desk for you on the day. We look forward to hearing from you!
