Event Summary

Event Overview

Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Cote-de-Holme Moss Sportive.

Organised by Holmfirth Cycling Club in association with The Bridge Public House, Holmbridge, this tough sportive has become established as an annual 'must do' on the sportive calendar.

Based at the foot of the iconic Tour de France cat 2 climb, in Holmbridge Village near Holmfirth the sportive heads towards Holmfirth before heading up towards Meltham and Marsden following the route of the Tour de Yorkshire.

Stunning scenery and beautiful roads lead to the first major challenge of the route begining in the town of Slaithwaite....a test of the legs and lungs ! Folowing this the route splits allowing those riders with legs of steel to continue to Steele Lane -  a cobbled climb with bags of character...this is included in the longer 'Massive' route.

The shorter 'Little-Un' continues to the first feed station which offers stunning views over the valley and of Holme Moss in the distance.

Both routes continue via a flowing descent into Denshaw and then climb the picturesque Greenfield Road past Dovestone Reservoir with the Indian Head rock formation on the skyline.

A brief stop at event HQ for both routes and then the major challenge - a timed ascent of the iconic Holme Moss.....from the moment it starts to go up until the final moment where it plateaus out and you cross the line.

Get your breath back if you can on the breathtaking switchback descent to the Woodhead pass and then up again !  The routes diverge again with the 'Little-un' taking a left towards HQ, over the tops and the 'Massive' continuing to follow the Tour de France route. The roads over the Strines are real 'Carling' type tarmac - silky smooth and again surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery.

More water and feed stops en-route (you'll need the one after Jawbone Hill !) and then a return to the event HQ and finish via Millhouse Green and the unmistakeable wind farm above Penistone.

So you have the choice and luxury of all of the following:

    • Holme Moss 'Massive' (The Leg Breaker) 141 Km and  3,300 M of ascent !
    • The 'Little un'  a shorter route covering 84 Km and 1,957 M of ascent.
    • parcours follows roads used by the 2014 Tour de France and the 2015 Tour de Yorkshire
    • Fully chip timed
    • GPX route data
    • both routes climb the iconic Holme Moss - a timed section.
    • full support and backup
    • full route marking
    • bronze, silver, gold category timings
    • Feed stations
    • mechanical support
    • Route marshalls
    • Go Ride coaching and activities at the event base, for families
    • post ride pasta party
    • post ride massage
