Event Summary

Event Overview

The Cool Cambridge Sportive is the last British Cycling registered sportive scheduled this year in England. Take on one final challenge in 2016 and raise much-needed funds for Magpas!

This event is run by Long Leg Tours in association with Magpas Air Ambulance, which brings crucial lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies in the East of England and beyond. Your entry fee covers the cost of running the event – however, please try to secure sponsorship for taking part in this event and, if you can, make a small donation to a great cause. Magpas is not a state-funded service and therefore relies on generous public donations to continue saving lives. Visit the event’s JustGiving page to make a donation.

We start the 100K route just outside the world-renowned city of Cambridge and head south into the open countryside of Cambridgeshire. We ride into Essex, passing through the town of Saffron Walden and along an excellent section of the 2014 Tour de France route, ending up in the picturesque village of Finchingfield. We head north, stopping at Steeple Bumpstead for a well-earned snack or two! Now feeling re-energised, we head into Suffolk and through the small town of Clare, before heading north-west and back to the finish. The route has an elevation of nearly 2,500ft and is constantly undulating over rolling hills.

We start the 50K route again just outside Cambridge and head south into the open countryside of Cambridgeshire. After a short while we head east towards the village of Withersfield. We then cross over the border into Suffolk and through the village of Great Bradley, before heading north-west back to the finish. This route has an elevation of just over 1,300ft and again is constantly undulating over rolling hills.

The road surfaces on both routes are some of the best around, including a number of roads that have been recently resurfaced.

So, whether you are a serious cyclist, leisure cyclist or just looking to get into cycling, come along and join in.

Here’s what included:

  • Personal rider’s insurance
  • Fully signposted routes
  • Medical support
  • Mechanical support
  • Free food and water stops
  • Free onsite parking
  • Free onsite changing facilities with showers
  • Broom wagon
  • Goody bag for all finishers

Please note: this event is limited to 300 riders, so to avoid disappointment please enter in advance. On the day entries will only be accepted if we have not reached full capacity in advance and will be on a first come, first served basis. Online entry will close on Friday 2nd December.
