Event Overview

EVENT CANCELLED - PLEASE CONTACT ORGANISER FOR MORE INFORMATION.

It's the return of the North Pennines MTB Marathon only with a slightly different name. From the people who bring you the Clennell Colossus and Breamish Behemoth, may we present the Garrigill Grinder! A non-competitive challenge ride in the stunning North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Showcasing the best riding in the area, the highest trails in the Pennines and using paths that are not normally open to the public, this is an event that shouldn’t be missed. The event is a back-to-the-roots, Big Single Loop format taking in long grinds up landrover tracks, open moorland crossings, steep brake-burning descents and all served up with fantastic views.

There are 2 route options including the 65km monster to the 36km classic to provide a challenging and fun day’s riding for mountain bikers of all standards. Plus all the benefits you’d expect from a well organised event: well-stocked feed station, enthusiatsic support and professional medical cover.

As with other events the aim is to bring people to a beautiful rural location to enjoy themselves riding and boost the local economy. It's about having fun and getting out there. The aim is to complete and not compete. By all means go quick if you want to, whatever floats your boat, but there's no pressure at all.  At the end you will get a goody bag with an event momento (surprise) and possibly some other good stuff as we approach all the same sponsors as last time.

There are two distances on offer, both of which include some serious ups and downs.

Short: 20 miles, 1260m ascent/descent

Long: 40 miles, 2175km ascent/descent

By participating in the event you will be raising funds for local causes as well as donating to Tyne Valley MTB Cycling Club.  Tyne Valley actively campaign for cycling issues in the area as well as providing a fantastic arena for riding with like minded souls.

We're working on potential camping options for people who may want to stay the evening before and visit the local pub for some carb-loading (drinking).  Details of this will be released when arrangements are in place.
