The Otley One - 2016 Reliability Ride

Reliability Trial , Otley – Sunday, 21 Feb 2016

Event Summary

Event Overview

Otley Reliability Ride Sunday 21st Feb 2016 – entry £4

This is Ride 4 of the 'Magnificent Seven' Yorkshire Reliability Rides

A Reliability ride is all about participants demonstrating that they are a ‘reliable rider’, by completing a ride within a specified time. The case of Otley’s event this is 100K in 3.5 hours or 50K in 3 hrs. Groups of cyclists work together to ensure that they get around the course safely and in time. All riders are required to be self-sufficient. They need to fix their own bikes and take any food or personal medication with them on the ride.

This event takes place on the open roads and rules of the Highway Code must be obeyed at all times. They are much simpler affairs than Sportives –maps are available, there is no chip timing, no signage on route and no support. Consequently they are cheap to participate in.

  • 100k ride to Kettlewell & back (in 3.5hrs) starts from 9.30am

  • 50K ride to Barden and back (in 3hrs) starts from 9.45am

This reliability ride has been going for many (20+) years. Profits from this event will go towards putting on the fantastic Otley Cycle races in July and supporting children’s cycle coaching.  Note it is essential that you pay on the day, no  payment for entry no insurance.

Signing on starts at 8.45 @ the Buttercross in Otley (central traffic lights and market place). Cost to ride the event is £4 person. Nearly £2 per rider goes to British Cycling to provide insurance for the event.

You will also have the option of paying £5 meaning you will get a prepaid tea/coffee at the finish.
