Event Summary

Event Overview

The Reg Harris Cyclosportive is taking place on Sunday 30th August 2015. This year there are two routes available, a Long route (51 miles) and Short route (26 miles).

Reg Harris was a world champion racing cyclist in the 1940s and 50s, born and raised in Bury, Lancashire.  The local Rotary Club, together with the support of Reg’s family, is organising the cyclosportive to raise money for local charities and celebrate Reg’s achievements and cycling career.  The ride is not a race, it’s a chance to enjoy a challenge with like minded people and raise money for some excellent charities.

The entry fee for this event is £25 per person for the long and short routes, with a commitment to raise a minimum of £20 per person for the chosen charities.

You can expect the following for your entry fee:

  • Choice of two challenging routes (51 and 26 miles)
  • Clearly marked routes with signage and marshals
  • Route maps
  • GPS routes
  • HQ and Feed station with toilets. Food and drinks will be provided.
  • Electronic timing - individual times for all
  • Professional photography of the event
  • Free food and drinks after your ride
  • Free Car Parking
  • Support Vehicles
  • Professional Bike Service
  • Web Results Service

We will also, as in previous years, have some prizes for those who raise the most money for the charities.

About the Event

Info for Riders

There are two routes, Long (51 miles) and Short (26 miles). Both long and short routes are challenging without being leg breaking! Reg started cycling in the 1930s with CTC Bury Group and would undoubtedly have ridden the roads included in this sportive. The first 10 miles of both short and long routes is predominately uphill. The longer route then continues around Hoghton Tower, before passing around Anglezarke, then ascends Winter Hill to Bradshaw with a final climb to Affetside. The final few miles is a steady descent back into Tottington. From Lower Darwen the short route follows the Roman road back to Edgworth with several short but steep testers before rejoining the main route on the final climb from Bradshaw to Affetside.
