Chavenage Cycle Challenge

If a relaxing ride back in time starting from an Elizbethan 16 century mansion and following through the picture perfect Cotswold countryside is your idea of sportive heaven, then Chavenage Cycle Challenge, with a choice of agreeable 40 and 80 mile routes and a deliberate “no timing chip” policy, might be right up your street.

This is your chance to take part in the Chavenage Cycle Challenge on the 3rd August, taking in the breath-taking views of the Cotswolds. You will be guided round some Historic Roman Roads which give exposure to some of the most beautiful villages in the Cotswolds.

Not only will it be a route full of amazing views but the start and finish offer the unique chance of going back in time to a country mansion set in the heart of the Cotswolds, Chavenage House is steeped in history and provides a perfect start and finish to the Cycle Challenge, This is a chance to escape into the beautiful surroundings of a Cotswold manor that has remained virtually un changed for over 400 years.

There will be two routes to choose from, including an 80 mile route with two well stocked feed stations. Both Feed stations will be in a Beautiful Cotswold Village Halls where you will be able to take shelter, grab a hot beverage and take a call of nature! The Feed Stations will be stocked with products supplied by Sports Nutrtionist James Whiting (JW Sports Performance) will also be able to answer any questions you may have on nutrition !! One of the Feed stations will be held at a School to help raise money for a Charity that supports an orphanage in Thailand (http://acornoverseas.org).

There will be no timing offered at this event. This event is all about enjoying the day out and taking in the views with friends. Organisers want riders to enjoy a day out on the bike without the stress of thinking about time. It’s all about having a fun day out - not to say the Cotswolds won’t offer the odd challenge!

There will be experienced cycle mechanics on hand before and during the event to ensure you get underway with zero issues and making sure that for anyone that is unfortunate to have a problem on route organisers will be a phone call away to come to your assistance.

Changing and parking will be at “Chavenage House”,

After the ride there will be a selection of food and drink in the Ballroom, and for anyone wishing to take part in a guided tour by one of the family members this will be offered at half price (£4 instead of the usual price of £8) for any of those that have taken part in the Sportive. Where you will be shown around some of the famous features of the house, the two tapestry rooms, Cromwell's and Ireton's Room; the Great Hall featuring stained glass windows and the Oak Room which has elaborate 1590 panelling.

In an effort to encourage women to take part organisers will provide women’s specific facilities at both feed stations, female led riders will be available if required to provide that extra support and advice.
