Event Summary

Event Overview

An “introductory/have a go” road biking/sportive event with route options of approx 20 or 35 miles suitable for either (a) novices/beginners or (b) leisure road bikers wanting an easy, sociable and relaxing morning out in the countryside on quiet country lanes. Entries will be split into various age categories plus there is a ladies only class on each ride with a specific start time window allocated.

This is the fourth Try A Sportive ride this year run in association with British Cycling.

This ride starts & finishes from Thornbridge Outdoor Centre, Great Longstone which is approx two miles north west of the beautiful Peak District town of Bakewell. There are two routes on offer: a 56km (35mile) ride with 939m (3079 feet) of ascent and a shorter 29.1k (18 mile) option which includes 441m (1447 feet) of climb – for route maps and profiles please click here.

Both routes head out into some glorious White Peak countryside with a feed station and route split point in the picturesque village of Monyash. The longer route does a loop out including Longnor and Hartington. Wherever possible the riding is on carefully selected, quiet country lanes i.e. avoiding busy main roads.

The event coincides with a weekend of cycling related events “Bike Fest” at Thornbridge Outdoors, see here for ongoing information http://www.visitpeakdistrict.com/see-and-do/Bakewell-Bikefest-at-the-Big-Shakeout/details/?dms=3&feature=1001&venue=6125636&w=100%25&itemtype=506

The event includes:

  • A clearly signed/arrowed route
  • A feed-station providing juice, water, gels/bars and fruit
  • Colour route map provided including emergency numbers
  • SPORTident chip timing for an instant post-event time
  • Refreshments at the finish
  • Gold, silver and bronze awards based on your finishing time
