Tom Neal snatches victory in the Thames Velo Spring RR

Posted 11/05/2014 - Tom Burnley

Report: Snowdon Sports

Tom Neal (Team Corley Cycles) snatched victory with a late attack from a nine-man breakaway in the Thames Velo Road Race at Little Milton, Oxfordshire, on Sunday.

An early breakaway of eight men escaped after just 15 miles of the 75 mile rolling course and formed an advantage of 30 seconds.

Seeing the race escape up the road Neal bridged across the breakaway on his own and the group worked well together increasing their lead to an unassailable three minutes.

With two kilometres to the finish Danny Axford (Artic Tacx RT) attacked the breakaway and took Neal with him clear.

The pair escaped the clutches of the break and with 300 metres to go Neale, aged 21 and from Spalding, powered around his companion to clinch victory.

It was neale's first win of the season after finishing second in the Phil Corley Cycles Circuit Races last month.

After the race Neale said: “It was a really good win for me and my focus will now switch to the National Circuit Race Series.”
