James Gullen wins John May Memorial Road Race on Sunday

Posted 11/05/2014 - Glyn Watkins

Report: Snowdon Sports

Velosure-Giordana dominated the John May Memorial Road Race in Wakefield on Sunday as James Gullen led home a one-two-three for the team.

Gullen, 24, made a break from the peloton at the end of the second lap and managed to stay away on his own for the next six laps of the 14-lap race.

But his team-mates, Thomas Bustard and Matt Cronshaw, were working together in the chasing group and with seven laps to go, they engineered a move which saw them bridge over to Gullen.

The trio then worked together to open up a gap out at the front. By the time they reached the finish line, they were a minute ahead of a smaller group and elected to roll over the line together with Gullen taking first place.

Speaking after the race, Gullen said: “We worked together really well today and we’ve been doing that recently. We all train together so that helps.

“We’ve got the Regional Championships next week so hopefully we can do it again and get a result for the team.”
