Oliver Davis wins the 2014 Andy Poole Memorial Road Race

Posted 20/07/2014 - Austin Jones

Report by Snowdon Sports

Oliver Davis chalked up a victory in the Severn Valley Road Race, held in memory of Andy Poole, in Bridgnorth, Shropshire on Sunday.

The race took place on a well-established circuit which has been used for a number of competitions by the local cycling community over the years and the undulating route presented a challenge for the riders.

Typically, there were a number of early exchanges with plenty of activity throughout the field and the first lap saw a small group formed away at the front.

By the second lap, riders formed into two small groups but as the race wore on, a chasing bunch caught them resulting in one pack of 20.

This number was reduced to 16 and as the end approached, it came down to a sprint finish and it was Davis that had the strength to make 10 seconds on his opponents in a dash for the line.

Felt Colbornes’ Ben Carty grabbed second place and Wheelbase Altura’s Simon Wilson was third.
