CHESHIRE CLASSIC WOMEN'S ROAD RACE 2014
Part of British Cycling's National Series
The Cheshire Classic Women’s Road Race is one of the longest running races on the British Cycling National Series calendar having been organised by Weaver Valley Cycling Club for over 30 years.
The race takes place in the heart of Cheshire on the outskirts of a village called Weaverham in Northwich. The route sees the riders tackle 12 laps of a 7.7km circuit. The circuit is a mixture of winding country road and fast flowing bypass. The circuit’s famous point is the climb up Acton Bridge Hill (known to locals as the Cliff) which also hosts the finish of the race. The race is open to Elite to 3rd category riders.
Previous winners of the race read as a ‘who is who’ of Women’s British Cycling including Mandy Jones who lined up on the start line in her World Champion’s jersey in 1983.
Many riders who feature in the top 3 go on to represent British cycling on an International and Olympic level such as Nicole Cooke, Lizzie Armitstead, Dame Sarah Storey & two time Junior World Champion Lucy Garner. The 2013 edition was won by Karla Boddy.
You can follow the race on Twitter and on Facebook. The website includes videos and an advice area aimed at supporting Women cyclists from grassroots to those racing. The website features interviews with Sarah Storey, Lucy Garner and Hannah Walker to name but a few. Visit www.cheshireclassic.co.uk.
