About our club

CycleBirmingham is the Rides & Social part of Push Bikes the Birmingham Cycling Campaign.

We are a friendly and welcoming social and leisure cycling group. We organise a weekly: Evening ride & social, Saturday morning ride (In Bournville) and a monthly Sunday ride, plus some additional rides and social events from time to time.

Weekly Evening Ride:
The rides vary in distance to the destination from 2 to 12 miles - usually shorter in winter with some longer rides in the light summer evenings if there is good weather. The pace is set by the group. We try to use quiet routes for most of the rides and advise on route type for each ride. There is often food available at many of the destinations we go to if you don’t have time to eat after work. We will try and pair you up with members of the group for your return journey home where possible so that as much as possible of your journey home is undertaken with fellow members of the group - for example a number of the women riders cycle home together. It is fine to return back home as soon as we arrive at the destination if you need to be home earlier. Most of our destinations are close to railway stations and bicycles are carried free of charge on local rail services in the West Midlands with no need to book, plus it only costs £2.50 to get the train after 6.30pm to most stations in the West Midlands County.

Saturday Bournville Gentle Cycling Rides:
10am each Saturday from Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville - for families and beginners.

Monthly Sunday Rides:
The rides vary in length from 15 miles to 40+. The Sunday rides usually return to the area they start from after a leisurely lunch at the destination. They tend to be a bit quicker pace than the evening rides. Most start from Kings Norton Railway Station car park, but occasionally there are some from the City Centre and other parts of the city.

We usually use cycle-paths, parks, canal towpaths, quiet side and back roads and country lanes for our rides and will advise on the route type for each ride.

The most up to date information on CycleBirmingham rides can be found the following sites on:

1) Facebook Page: (Visible to anyone with internet access ie Facebook account not needed to read information about the rides).

Things to bring on a ride:
Bring lights, locks, some water, a spare inner tube, tyre levers, a pump and some money for the destination. It is worth bringing some extra layers of clothing and gloves with you as the temperature can drop after sunset and some water proofs in case of rain. It is also worth bringing a bag in case you get warm and need to remove your jacket and to store items in.

The Legal Bit:
Participants are expected to take great care and observe the Highway Code. The organisers do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property, for personal accident or injury, or for any public liability. Parents are responsible for their children on the rides. You undertake the rides at your own risk. Please ensure your bike is roadworthy before you set off to join the ride.

CycleBirmingham is run by volunteers and is an autonomous part of Push Bikes – Birmingham Cycling Campaign. The rides are open to both members and non-members of Push Bikes.
See: for details and benefits of Push Bikes membership.
Some of our volunteers are also members of other cycling groups and if you would like to do longer distance/quicker pace rides than those run by CycleBirmingham we can put you in touch with these other groups.

We try to keep the rides fun and enjoyable, hopefully we will see you on a ride or at a social event soon :)

Happy and Safe Cycling!
