The Camel Valley Cycling and Triathlon Club is an established club based in the Wadebridge, North Cornwall area. It was originally founded in 1981 with a decline occurring in 1986. In 1987 a resurgence of the club then occurred with the help of Ivor and Jill Edmonds; the club then progressed annually up to the present date. All cyclists are welcome to join the club. The ethos of the club is mainly associated with the sporting side of cycling - Time-Trialling, Triathlon and Road Racing. The club organises and runs an annual programme of open and club based time trials. These events are greatly appreciated by the other clubs in the South West District and from even further afield during the holiday season. It is expected that club members become involved in the running of the events. It could be in preparing with the race preparation, putting out and recovering the various signs, marshalling or helping out at the HQ. Members are expected to help at least twice a year.
As well as organising these valued races the club has a proud history of achievement. Among the club’s successes have been the national championships won by Stuart Dangerfield who later also became an Olympian and Commonwealth games participant before his retirement from the sport in 2009. Wendy Houvenaghel is another cyclist who started her competitive career with the CVC&TC in 2002; Wendy went on to achieve many successes which included participation in the Olympic and Commonwealth games. Many other cycling achievements have occurred over the years with latest being in 2016 with the CTT National 12hour TT ladies team award won by our lady’s team of Ginine Gronwalt, Helen Willis and Katherine Snell. Ginine and Helen also won their respective age awards. The club has aspirations of further success and new members will be encouraged to scale new heights and can count on every bit of encouragement that our experienced members can pass on.
