The British Cycling National Track Championships are set to be the best supported event in the long history of the championships, with 6,000 tickets already sold.

The championships, which will be held from 27-29 January at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester, will see established members of the Great Britain Cycling Team taking on Britain’s emerging generation of talented riders with the iconic red, white and blue national champions' jerseys up for grabs.

The event has undergone a number of changes in recent years, changing from a five day competition to three days in 2015, as well as moving from September to January.

British Cycling’s director of cycle-sport and membership, Jonny Clay, said:

“It’s fantastic that tickets for the event are selling so well and undoubtedly justifies the decision to move the event from September to January, positioning the event strategically in the winter international track cycling calendar.

“Track cycling is a brilliant spectator sport and the appetite for events in this country continues to grow, highlighted by the great crowds we saw at the track world cup in Glasgow earlier this month.

“Championships such as this one are absolutely vital in inspiring the next generation of cyclists and we look forward to seeing so many people there.”

Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist, Jody Cundy, added:

“The British Cycling National Track Championships will be my first major event since competing at the Paralympic Games and it is great to hear how many people have already bought tickets.

“You can’t beat the thrill of riding in front of a passionate home crowd and I’m really looking forward to getting out on the track.”

Tickets for the event are available via Ticketmaster.
