Defending champion Steven Roach (Raleigh GAC) was crowned Welsh Cyclo-Cross Champion after the title race at Singleton Park in Swansea, where Abergavenny Road Club’s Ffion James won the women’s title.

Roach, the winner for the last two years, made it a hat-trick of titles despite crossing the line second, 1-15 behind Steven James (Hope Factory Racing) who took part but was not eligible for the title as he is not Welsh.

Gruffudd Lewis (Madison Genesis) crossed the line third to take second spot in the Welsh Championship, finishing 15 seconds behind Roach, while Jacob Phelps (TORQ Performance) was fourth on the day and third in the title race.

Ffion James (Abergavenny Road Club) claimed the women’s title with an impressive ride, winning by over a minute.

The 18-year-old has had six podiums in the Welsh league in 2016, and has registered back-to-back third place finished in the last two national trophy events.

James topped the podium with Ruby Miller (Hargrove Cycles) and Megan James (Abergavenny Road Club) finishing second and third respectively. Fourth place Melanie Alexander (Cardiff JIF) was the first veteran.

In the junior race, Craig Rogers (Birkenhead North End CC) claimed the Welsh title in the tightest race of the day, winning by 14 seconds from Joseph Beckingsale (Abergavenny Road Club).

CC Abergavenny rider Timothy Davies was the winner of the veterans 40+ category, whilst Grant Johnson (Sunset Cycles) became champion in the veterans 50+ race.
