Opportunities to ride the Velodrome where champions ride!

Youth
Beginner courses run Wednesday 1630-1800 throughout the year.
Cost is £16 for the 4 week course with bike, helmet and gloves provided.

Due to popular demand there will be courses on a Monday evening in October as well.
Riders who complete the beginner course are able to attend the youth drop in session on a Saturday morning.


Tuesday Improvers 1700-1845

Drop in session for Youth riders suitable for riders coming from the beginner course looking to improve their track skills through to those wishing to take their first steps into track racing. The format will be structured towards coach led racing skills leading to riders being able to enter the main Winter Track League which immediately follows the session. Bike hire is chargeable from reception. Alternatively track bikes can be hired long term from Welsh Cycling. Coached by Garrie Tillett Welsh Cycling Youth Development Coach. Bring your own helmet and gloves.


Saturday Youth drop in session 0930-1200

The Saturday session is open to all youth riders aged 10-16 who have completed a beginner course. It is run by qualified volunteer coaches from the local youth cycling club Newport Velo but you do not need to be a member to attend the session. Bike hire is free of charge for this session. Bring your own helmet and gloves.

Adult

Adult Beginners (14+)

Essential for all riders new to Wales National Velodrome.

A 4 week course allows riders to gain a new set of skills providing the ultimate track experience. Pre Booking required. Hire bikes and helmets available. Track mitts required.

Improvers Course (14 years +)

Progressing from the beginners course, this coach led session will introduce more complex drills and runs around the track with the aim of producing a safe and confident track rider. Many riders completing the improver course go on to gain accreditation and move on to track league. Hire bikes and helmets available. Track mitts required.

 Accreditation

The next step after completing the improver's course. Accreditation is needed to attend the Thursday Structured Quality (SQT) sessions and is a test of your track skills, understanding and etiquette. Accreditation is for riders of 12 years and over who have been recommended by a British Cycling qualified coach as being sufficiently competent. Accreditation is also necessary to race on the Tuesday evening Track League.

Easy Riders (14+) Monday 1400-1600

Drop in session for all abilities at an easy pace.
Must possess basic track cycling skills (12years+)

Lunchtime Drop In (12+) Tuesday 1200-1400

Drop in session for all rides over 12 years.
Not suitable for complete beginners.


Early Bird (12+) Wednesday 0700-0900

Drop in session for all riders over 12 years.
Not suitable for beginners.


Lunchtime Drop In Thursday 1200-1400

Drop in for all riders over 12 years.
Not suitable for beginners.


Structured Quality Training Thursday 1930-2130 (ACCREDITED RIDERS ONLY)

A faster paced drop in session for accredited riders only, over 12 years.
Experienced riders only.


Veteran Drop in Club (40+)   Friday 1600-1900

Drop in session for the over 40's.
Experienced riders only.
