Welsh Cycling welcomes Dan Coast to South Wales post

Welsh Cycling is pleased to welcome Dan Coast to the role of Cycling Development Officer South Wales.

Dan comes to Welsh Cycling with a wealth of experience in the sport. Dan worked at British Cycling at the inception of the Go-Ride programme, undertaking the roles of South & South West Development Officer and then a regional Go-Ride Coach. More recently, he has been involved in the Skyride and Bikeability programmes in Somerset.

Looking ahead at his role, Dan said: “I’m looking forward to getting to work within South Wales at this exciting chapter in the history of Welsh Cycling. The sport has seen a huge amount of growth recently and the future looks promising, with the clubs in Wales playing a vital role in helping to increase the numbers of people engaging with our sport.”

Dan is an experienced cycle coach in road, track and BMX, working with riders at all levels of the sport, be it the first taste of cycling at a Go-Ride session or helping develop athletes who progressed to become National and World Champions.

Dan is a keen road cyclist and lovescoaching groups at BMX. He was inspired to start cycling after watching his cycling heroes on TV as a young boy. He adds: “The Tour de France inspired me when I was young and I found out my Dad used to race. I started competing from a young age and now I love getting out on my road bike whenever I can. It’s great for clearing your mind at the end of a long day.” 

The role of the Cycling Development Officer is to assist clubs and officials in developing the sport of cycling in their area.
