The road season may nearly be over but it’s not time to resign your bike to the shed just yet.
A week remains until the first event of the 2012 Welsh Cyclo-Cross league season, starting on Sunday 16th September in Llantarnam, Cwmbran.
Cyclo-cross racing is for everyone, no matter what your age or ability on a bike. It’s fun, friendly and easy to take part, and this year promises to be packed full of excitement.
With an impressive 11 events in this year’s calendar including a new venue near Haverfordwest courtesy of Pembrokeshire Velo, there are more opportunities than ever in Wales for riders to qualify for an overall position without the expense of too much travelling.
Only the riders’ results from their top six events will count towards their overall position. And this year, the final round will not be compulsory.
Also in response to the growing numbers of youngsters taking part, a separate race has now been included for the Under 8’s at only £1 per entry.
Those wishing to get involved should be aware that the Merlin’s Knight ‘Cross at Carmarthen Park is on Saturday, 20thOctober. This is a floodlit event but feel free to bring lights with you.
Pre-entry is recommended for the main race, and priority will be given to Welsh league riders. Entry on the line will be taken if the 80-rider limit is not reached.
*In addition, riders are invited to test themselves against the best in Britain at the opening round of the 2012 National Trophy Series, taking place on Sunday, 14th October at Abergevenny Leisure Centre, more information on this will be published in due course.
There will be supporting races for Under 12s, Under 10s and Under 8s, so get your entry in by 2nd October!
