East Kilbride Road Club are hosting the first round of the Scottish Youth Crit Series at the Kames Motorsports Complex in Muirkirk this Saturday (23rd April).

This event is also the second round of the Scottish Cycling West Youth series so we expect there to be lots of action.

The venue, which has been described by Tim Buckle, Head of Youth Cycling in British Cycling, as ‘ one of the best youth circuits in Britain’ is just over a kilometre long and should see some exciting racing.

There are races for both Girls and Boys in all 5 youth categories and also a Junior Women’s race with some of Scotland’s top riders taking part .

The youth E’s will have its usual mix of enthusiastic riders, in the Youth D's we expect to see Oliver Kelly and Struan Shaw up at the front, and in the girls Isla McCutcheon, Corrie Gilroy and Daisy Taylor contesting the top spots too.

The Youth C boys will see the strong Edinburgh Road Club contingent (Alfie Atterton, Archie Ellen and Freddie Fuller) battling it out against the boys from the West with Finn McHendry, Kris Bryce and new to road racing Ben McMullen in the mix.

The Youth C girls race will be equally competitive with Imani P James, Eilidh Shaw , Morven Yeoman and Keira Chan some of the ones to watch.

In the Youth B boys Aaron King, Calum Reid and Hamish McLaren will be up there with the home club hoping that Mack Stewart, Craig Paterson and Keir Roberts can make a strong showing.

The girls will have the ever strong Eva Young, fresh from an excellent Youth Tour of Scotland along with Georgia Ferry and Kirsty Hay.

Youth A boys will have some fast racing with Oran McConville, Charlie Johnston, Matti Dobbins, Jonathon Hilbourne and Adam Hazle all likely to be in the front group. The girls will have Anna Shackley and Georgia Speake as stong contenders too.

All in all it should be a great days racing so why not come along and see some of the best young riders in Scotland strut their stuff.
