The Edinburgh Falcons suffered the heartache of their first defeat of the season last Sunday (20th June) at the hands of a youthful yet extremely impressive Stockport side. The loss was even harder to take with the margin of victory so narrow, after 15 pulsating races there was only one point between the sides with the home team nicking it by the scoreline of 73-72.
The Falcons were led tremendously by Bandosz, Newsome & Hewitson but the record books will show that three exclusions cost the Capital side dearly especially with two of the offences for moving on the starting grid.
The day was completed with two junior matches - the first outings for seven riders aged between 8 and 15 trying their hand at the sport! After an expected heavy loss to the very experienced Stockport junior team the lads moved to Astley & Tyldesley where they gave an excellent account of themselves and provided six race winners with Michael Lee grabbing the headlines with a Heat 15 win over Luke Jamson - a rider with many more years of Cycle Speedway under his belt.
Seniors at Stockport: 72-73 - Robert Bandosz 17, Craig Newsome 16+2, Mikey Hewitson 16, Jake Slight 8, Johnny Murphy 5+1, Gavin Kennedy 5, Neil McPherson 5, Michael Lee DNR.
Juniors at Stockport: 49-101 - Michael Lee 11, Paul Kelly 8, Ewan Kennedy 6, Christopher Lee 5, Douglas Morgan 4, Louis Kennedy 4, Callum Cairney 4.
Juniors at Astley: 69-81 - Michael Lee 16+1, Paul Kelly 14, Mark Lee 12+1, Christopher Lee 11, Ewan Kennedy 6, Douglas Morgan 4, Louis Kennedy 3, Callum Cairney 3.

The Falcons now travel back to Stockport on Sunday (27th June) for Northern Cup action. The format this year has yielded a 5 team final where Edinburgh will be using Craig Newsome, Mikey Hewitson, Jake Slight and one other.
