Drumclog APR
Location: Strathaven, South Lanarkshire
Event: 11 March 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports

VC Glasgow South rider Ronnie Burns took victory in the Drumclog APR race at Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, on Sunday, sprinting clear of his breakaway rivals at the end of the 38-mile race.

Burns, 41 and from Giffnock near Glasgow, was one of eight riders who broke away from the main pack a few miles before the finish and crossed the line almost ten seconds ahead of the main bunch.

The main group was being pulled along by Neil Walker (Walkers Cycle Club) and made a valiant effort to pull in the leading bunch, but just ran out of time to reel them in.

Earlier in the race, there had been a small group of five riders from group one that had held off the main pack by 1:30, right until the end of the second lap.

Finally, special mention goes to Burns’ team-mate James Truswell, who punctured on the final lap, three miles from the finish. He walked in to claim the lanterne rouge and claimed a special prize of a signed copy of Greame Obree's training manual!

While Burns took the win, second spot went to East Kilbride 29-year-old Andrew Louise (Pro Am CC), while Glasgow Green CC rider Robert Young took third.
