Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's Youth League Round 19

Story posted August 28, 2010 | by Dot Tilbury

The 19th and penultimate round of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league was staged at the NSC last Tuesday night in sunny but cold conditions. Due to the Manx Grand Prix motorcycle race practices on closed public roads there was a slightly reduced entry of 192 competitors.

Sophia Littlewood continued her winning ways in the novices class, coming home ahead of Sam Cunningham for another emphatic victory. Emma Stratford was a clear third and Harry Callin outgunned Albert Kessler, Mia Littlewood, Ryan Edwards and Ealish Cook in the battle for fourth. Lily Griffiths and Matilda Clague rounded off the top ten.

In the born 2005 & later category Harry Kneen made an early bid for glory and was never seen again. Niall Colquitt held off leading girls Mairi Harrison and Chloe Comaish in the dash for second, with Zachary Dowson pipping Chloe Dillon for fifth. Thomas Ross took the bunch sprint for seventh.

Attacking on the final lap, Zac Walker was too strong for breakaway partner Dillon Dowson in the closing stages of the born 2004 event. Joshua Dudley escaped from twin brother Cameron and James Devereau to secure third, while Ben Boyle came in on his own for a safe sixth. Further down the field Carrick Samson just held off Harry Whitehouse in a very close sprint  for 13th position.

Jake Wilson edged out Matthew Black and Jonty Bregazzi in the gallop at the end of the born 2003 race. Thomas Skillicorn beat Jack Collister to the line for fourth and Ryan Quirk stayed clear of the fast finishing Darcy Cain for sixth. Relative newcomer Kenso Senior did well to take eighth ahead of Kitty Thomas and Alex Downing, who completed the top ten leader board.

British national series winner Charlie Gibson took the honours for a sixteenth time in the born 2002 age group, coming from behind to head Aaron Lund and James Harrison in the dash for the chequered flag. Nicholas Kissack and Blae Cain lost contact with the three leaders on the final lap, finishing fourth and fifth respectively, with Frederick Nabor a good sixth.

In the born 2001 event Juan Kneen overcame Tyler Cain, Adam Scarffe and Max Walker in the final sprint to pocket maximum points for the second week in succession. Emma Draper was fifth and George Ratcliffe snatched sixth from Sean Young and newcomer Taylor Andrews.

Leaving nothing to chance, Joseph Corkish went from the gun to record his first ever win in the born 2000 class. Ryan Forrest escaped from the chasing group to pick up second place and Harry Cain got the better of top girl Ruby Kennedy to grab the final place on the podium.

Matthew Draper rode away from Breeshey Cain and Phoebe Ferguson to take pole position in the born 1999-97 grouping. Liam McCann was a lonely fourth and Ben Cunningham led Will Quirk home for fifth.

Glen Vine's Thomas Bostock got the verdict over Max Walker and Juan Kneen in the sprint at the end of the under 10 racing bikes, with Matthew Draper notching up his second victory of the night in the under 12's.

Producing the ride of the night, Nick Corlett almost lapped the whole field on his way to scoring a fine solo win the under 16 racing bikes. Jamie Dudley went after him but was unable to make any inroads into the lead and had to settle for the runners-up spot. Anna Christian made a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to get across to Dudley before Owen Dudley took advantage of a indecisive bunch to slip away and claim third place.
