Stage 2 Road Race
With Junior European Time Trial champion Joe Perrett leading the race and finding a lot of riders now following him and his yellow jersey around, it was the turn of Sam Harrison to try some time trialling off the front of the bunch as he attacked early in the stage to get away in an early move. Sam didn't have to ride alone for long as a group of around five riders joined him and the break was soon two minutes clear of the bunch where a crash involving as many as 16 riders interrupted what chase there was.

While the bunch split and came together behind, the break was losing riders too and it was soon down to three riders, Tim Kennaugh, Marcus Christie and Sam Harrison with the rest of the original break going back to the bunch. Into the narrow wooded lanes approaching the final mountain climb at the finish, while the bunch was seen to sit up, the three-up break were working in Sam's words, "dead hard" and they got to the bottom with a four minute or so lead.

Tim Kennaugh however wasn't satisfied and he attacked the others in the break and went clear to take the stage from Sam Harrison and Marcus Christie. With the times added up, Kennaugh was leading the race from Harrison who would wear the King of the Mountains jersey and Christie. Points jersey wearer was Chris Whorral.
