Return Win For Wyman
Six weeks after her last race, Helen Wyman returned to racing with an impressive win in Steenokkerzeel, Belgium on Saturday.
After having left her professional team earlier this season to enable herself to focus 100% on the upcoming cyclo-cross season, Helen was starting her first race as an individual for over 4 years.
‘It was a totally different experience racing on my own, and just for myself. I've spent so long in a professional team now; it was really a really unfamiliar feeling. I'm really grateful to the people that have shown faith in me like For Goodness Shakes who have helped me continue in cycling.' Helen commented.
After 4 laps of the 15-lap race, Helen attacked the peleton and gained a gap of 25 seconds. Former Belgian Champion Corine Hierckens who rides professionally with Italian based team Fenix quickly joined her. The two worked together in front of the chasing pack and took the lead to just over one minute.
‘Coming into the last lap I knew I had to be really careful as she's a very good sprinter. She took my wheel a long way out from the finish so I knew I was going to have to be very careful about her trying to jump past. I just kept focused and managed to match her all the way to the line, and finally pull away to win with about 10 meters to go.' said Helen.
‘I'm in the process of putting together a group of sponsors to support me as a full time rider. Fingers crossed I'll be able to finalise a contract the cyclo-cross season very soon. In the meantime I'm getting great support from For Goodness Shakes, Prendas and also CycleFit in London. Hopefully I'll be able to add some more new sponsors to the list soon (Contact helen@helenwyman.com). I'm really motivated for the winter, but I'd like to grad a few more wins on the road as well. It always helps morale!!!'
