The Great Britain Cycling Team left the final UCI Para-Cycling Road World Cup of the season with a fantastic medal haul after Fin Graham and Lora Fachie and Corrine Hall both struck double gold.

Graham (MC3) and Fachie and Hall (WB) both won their road races yesterday to take the team’s overall tally to six golds.

That followed their time trial golds earlier in the week, in which Crystal Lane-Wright (WC5) and David Stone (MT2) were also successful.

Gold (Graham) Silver (Watson)

Graham said:

'I can’t believe it - I wasn’t expecting to win two golds at all! During the time trial I had no idea how I was doing as didn’t get any time checks during the race, so it was only when I crossed the line and watched the other riders finish that I knew I’d posted a good time. It was made even better by the fact that Ben (Watson) finished second, so it was good day out for us!

Of yesterday’s road race, he added:

‘The road race was fast from the start and I knew the climb was where the race was going to be decided.

‘From the start people were struggling up it, but myself and Ben managed to stay in the front group and ride such a strong race controlling everything that went on.

‘With just over one lap to go I attacked with the Italian, and coming into the climb on the last lap is when I attacked the Italian knowing that whoever got to the top first was going to win.

‘As I was riding down the finish straight I couldn’t believe what I had done! I want to thank all the staff that have been out here for all their hard work, John Hewitt for getting me to this point in my training and my parents and girlfriend, Lucy, for putting up with me when the training’s been hard. It’s to pay everyone back with these results!’

While Watson finished second in the MC3 time trial, Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby (MB time trial) and Will Bjergfelt (MC5 road race) also won silvers, while Lane-Wright finished second in her road race to add another medal to her time trial gold.

Bjergfelt took bronze in his time trial, as did Stone in his road race.

The team’s attentions now turn to the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Emmen, the Netherlands, next month.
