Great Britain Cycling Team’s Scott Davies finished 11th on the third and final stage of the 2015 UCI Under 23 Nations’ Cup Course de la Paix on Sunday, to claim 20th overall on the final general classification.
Davies made his bid for the leader’s jersey on Saturday’s second stage to Praded, but a mechanical a few kilometres from the summit finish put paid to the 19-year-old’s chances.
The Carmarthen man began the final 160-kilometre Jesenik stage in 26th place on general classification, one minute and 22 seconds down on pink jersey wearer Gregor Muhlberger of Austria and limited further losses on the final stage that took in four categorised climbs in the mountainous Olomouc region of Czech Republic.
Davies finished just six seconds behind stage winner Loic Vliegen of Belgium, while Muhlberger took the overall victory, finishing fourth in Jesenik on the same time as Vliegen.
The performance left Davies in 20th place overall on general classification, one minute and 28 seconds behind the race winner.
Muhlberger also claimed the points jersey on 46 points, with Great Britain's Gabriel Cullaigh sixth on 25 points thanks to his win on stage one.
