Location: Boggart Hole Clough Park, Blackley, Lancashire
Event: 3 November 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports

Giles Drake (Herbalife – Leisure Lakes) made it three wins on the bounce as he battled wet conditions to take first place in round seven of the North West League.

Starting on the tarmac, Drake started well and pushed hard to escape the attentions of Scott Wilson (Manchester Wheelers) and Dan Wells.

But Wilson came back strong and Drake had to dig deep to power away on the tarmac once again to put distance between them.

The 29-year-old gradually increased the gap from then on, shouldering his bike to run large sections of the circuit.

Wilson came back at Drake but couldn’t threaten him as he went on to cross the line. Matt Lawton (Macclesfield Wheelers) finished third. Wells suffered a puncture going into the final lap but still managed to pick up fifth place.

Giles Drake said after the race: “It was very wet today. There was a lot of running, there were probably three sections where it was easier to just pick the bike up. It was mostly wooded, not a traditional cyclo-cross track, it was more like a mountain bike track which suited me. There was a lot of changing bikes but almost straight away they got clogged up again. It was hardly worth bothering!”

Results:

1 Giles Drake (Herbalife – Leisure Bikes)
2 Scott Wilson (Manchester Wheelers)
3 Matt Lawton (Macclesfield Wheelers)
