Scottish Cycling is delighted to announce that we will be organising the Mini-Downhill finals at the Fort William MTB World Cup 2022.

Due to the ongoing challenges around getting events up and running this years event will be a first come, first served entry only event. There will be 4 age categories, U10, U12, U14 and U16 with, initially, equal opportunities for both boys and girls to participate in each category.

The event will be a mini-DH, which is the most accessible form of DH racing with riders then progressing onto Short Course DH (eg Highland Hardline), then Scottish Downhill Series (SDA), British Series (BDS) then onto the world cup circuit.

As such, the event will feature a course with small technical trail features which will be rollable on a 24” bike. On average, the grade of the trail will be blue but may contain some red/orange (Dot 2) features and some natural singletrack sections.

The podiums for each of the races will be presented on the world cup main podium. The event will be supported by West Highland Wheelers and Black Isle MTB Club.

Event organiser, Graeme McLean – Head of Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland in Scottish Cycling said:

“Whilst it is a shame that there is no qualifiers this year, we are excited that we can still have our young riders experience the thrill of riding at a world cup venue and possibly sharing the same stage as the global DH superstars.

"We are keen to keep our slot in the world cup schedule and we hope to be able to work with clubs across Scotland to run more regional Mini-DH, and other MTB disciplines, events next year in the run up to Scotland hosting the UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023.”

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for young racers to race at the same event as their downhill heroes.

To ensure the races happen the clubs and parents/carers supporting the event with timekeepers, marshals, and other essential volunteers have been given preferential entry to the event. As a result of this some categories have already sold out. The remaining categories are expected to sell out so please book your rider onto the event as soon as possible. All riders who successfully enter will be contacted directly via email with information on ticketing and event entry.

Any profit from the event will go directly to the Scottish Trail Fund to help develop more mountain bike trails across Scotland.
