Over 80% of the Cyclists competing for Team Wales at Glasgow took their first steps in the sport through a Go-Ride club. All but 3 of the 16 selected riders have entered the sport through the support of a growing number of Go-Ride clubs in Wales.

The Network of Go-Ride clubs provide the perfect introduction and support structure to encourage and develop any young rider who has been inspired by the performances of Welsh riders over the summer.

The Go-Ride clubs have had a busy summer delivering a wide range of coaching and competitive sessions to give people a fantastic first introduction to the sport. A large number of our clubs have delivered Go-Ride Tour events which linked in with the Grand Depart of this year’s race in Yorkshire, coupled with Geraint Thomas’s fine performance to complete the event in the top 20 which proved an inspiration to many young people to give our sport a try.

The Inspirational factor of the Commonwealth Games and the success of our athletes will undoubtedly motivate young people to have a go at emulating their cycling heroes and our Go-Ride clubs are ready and waiting to welcome new youngsters to the sport.
