Annie Last deferred her place in medical school to join British Cycling’s Olympic Academy Programme in 2009 and has gone on to become Britain's best female cross country mountain biker in a decade. Winning her first UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 2012 in the cross country eliminator discipline, Last backed up her previous performances which included three top ten placings in the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup cross country Olympic (XCO) and two a silver medals at the under-23 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships XCO.

In her first year as an under-23 rider, Last showed her potential, beating 2008 Olympic Champion Sabine Spitz in Stage One of the Tour de l’Ain and a couple of months later, at the 2009 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships XCO, produced a mature and sensational ride to claim fifth under-23 in her rookie year. Annie also represented GB in the 2010 UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships, where she started from dead last to finish 11th overall in the Senior Women category.
