Great Britain's Jack Carthy won gold in the junior 26 inch wheel trials. Carthy was best in qualifying only dropping five penalty points throughout the three laps and went into the evening's finals as the clear favourite.
Come the finals and the British junior excelled, dropping just one point over the two laps to claim the world title in convincing style ahead of Nils Obed Riecker of Germany and Jeremy Descloux of France.
Following his victory Carty said: "I have been working so hard this year for this and it’s pretty unreal that I managed to win so well.
"I compete in the elite division for the World Cups which gave me a little bit of experience but here I have to compete in my age group and I am just really glad I won.”
Even though Carthy made the Cascades MTB Park’s Trials course look easy by only scoring five points in the entire event – he said that that was not the case and he felt that it was a really difficult track to get to grips with.
"The course was really difficult but I guess I just had a really good ride today. It’s quite a small course which is not what I’m used to but it was a cool change from the bigger courses that we usually ride on.
"It isn’t really suited to my style of riding it seemed to work really well for me in the end."
In the elite men's event, Great Britain's Andrei Burton was back in action following his eighth place in the 20 inch wheel event, finishing sixth with the elite world title going to Vincent Hermance of France.
Earlier in the day, Great Britain's Rachel Atherton stormed the official timed run ahead of Sunday's world title ride in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Atherton clocked a time of 4:35.013, over 16 seconds faster than second placed Tracey Hannah of Australia. Great Britain's Manon Carpenter clocked the fifth fastest time, 21.892 behind her compatriot. Fellow GB rider Fionn Griffiths chose not to complete her timed run.
Atherton's brother Gee was third in the elite men's official timed run, two and a half seconds behind fastest man Steve Smith of Canada. Next best Brit was 2011 world champion Danny Hart 8.8 seconds off the pace, with 2009 world champion Steve Peat in 15th, twelve seconds back. Great Britain's Matt Simmonds, Josh Bryceland and Marc Beaumont were 19th, 20th and 30th respectively.
