Race guide: HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series and HSBC UK | National Women's Road Series at the Lincoln Grand Prix

A huge road cycling double-header is set for Lincoln this weekend.

The Lincoln Grand Prix hosts the final round of the HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series as well as the opening stage of the 2018 HSBC UK | National Women’s Road Series.

About the HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series

The HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series is a three-round British road race series which runs throughout April and May and sees riders compete across a variety of courses.

The series opened earlier this month with the Chorley Grand Prix - with One Pro Cycling’s Karol Domagalski taking the win in Lancashire.

Team Wiggins' Tom Pidcock wins the East Cleveland Klondike

Team Wiggins’ Tom Pidcock came out on top at the second round at the East Cleveland Klondike.

The final round of the series is held at the ever-popular Lincoln Grand Prix on Sunday 13 May.

As well as individual honours for riders, teams also aim to come out on top in the team standings.

About the HSBC UK | National Women’s Road Series

The HSBC UK | National Women’s Road Series is a seven-round competition running from May to August, starting with this weekend’s Lincoln Grand Prix.

The CiCLE Classic in Rutland hosts the second round next month before the two-day Tour of the Reservoir.

Round four takes place in Otley on 4 July, before the Stockton Grand Prix and Barnsley Town Centre Races later that month.

The series concludes with the Ryedale Grand Prix on 26 August.

As with the HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series, riders compete for both individual and team glory.

The course

HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series at the Lincoln Grand Prix

Both the men and women start and finish the Lincoln Grand Prix in Castle Square, by the cathedral. The course takes them through Newport, towards Burton Village before heading back into Lincoln via the fearsome Michaelgate cobbles.

HSBC UK | National Women's Road Series at the Lincoln Grand Prix

The women will race for 101km, or eight laps of the course while the men race for 165km, or 13 laps.

What happened last year

Ian Bibby took a stunning late win at the 2017 Lincoln Grand Prix to claim his second victory of the series.

Alice Barnes wins the 2017 Lincoln Grand Prix

The women’s race saw an equally spectacular contest, with Alice Barnes taking the win for Drops Cycling.

Ones to watch

HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series

Jonathan McEvoy has the lead in the standings with just one race remaining.

The Madison Genesis rider has 54 points, four clear of Karol Domagalski who won the opening race of the series.

Tom Pidcock will also look for a second HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series win of the season, but a number of strong names will also be in action in Lincoln.

Ian Bibby (JLT Condor), Charlie Tanfield and Andy Tennant (Canyon Eisberg) and Chris Latham (One Pro Cycling) as will Ribble Cycling duo John Archibald and Daniel Bigham as well as Great Britain Cycling Team UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup medallist Will Bjergfelt (Neon-Velo Cycling Team).

Dame Sarah Storey lines up for her team, Storey Racing, in the opening round of the HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series, backed up by Emily Nelson and Chanel Mason, among others.

Manon Lloyd and Anna Christian will take to the start line for Trek-Drops with the in-form Pfeiffer Georgi in the Liv Cycling Club - Halo Cycles colours.

Megan Barker will line up for Team Breeze at the Lincoln Grand Prix

Nikki Juniper is always a force to be reckoned with in domestic competition and races for NJC - Biemme - Echelon while Team Breeze have Great Britain Cycling Team riders such as Ellie Dickinson and Megan Barker in their squad.
