The mission of the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) is to build a capacity for sports to safeguard children and young people through sport and to enable sports organisations to lead the way in keeping children safe from harm.

The (CPSU) is leading a ‘Parents in Sport Week’ campaign over the 3rd – 9th of October towards promoting how parents can get involved in sport in a positive way.

They play the lead role in helping sports organisations to develop and implement their responses, policies and procedures, systems and structures for safeguarding. Their website holds a wide range of resources that clubs and organisations can freely use to strengthen the security of their safeguarding.

About Parents in Sport Week

All too often, we only hear negative stories about extreme poor behaviour from the side-lines. This negative parental behaviour takes away from a child’s experience of sport or their desire to continue participating within sport, as they no longer see taking part in sport as fun.

Naturally parents want a child to reach their full potential and from start to finish parents have a crucial role in their development. They look to achieve this by creating a number of resources for parents to refer to, covering the themes ‘motivation, responsibility and communication’.

If you operate within a club or organisation that could benefit from this kind of knowledge, here are some resources to help promote the campaign and the CPSU.
