Welsh Cycling wants you to join our team of commissaires in 2016. With competitions and races taking place across Wales all year round, the need for commissaires is greater than ever.

Assistant MTB DH/4X Commissaire and Assistant MTB XC Commissaire courses have been confirmed to take place in Wales in January and March 2016.

Welsh Cycling rely on a workforce of officials to ensure all events across cycling disciplines are conducted in a fair manner. Commissaires come in all shapes and sizes and if you love cycle racing and have the time to help support the future of racing, becoming an official could be for you.

And don't just take our word for it, Adrian Walls UCI MTB Commissaire shares his commissaire story as part of our #BehindEveryRace campaign.

As the entry point to becoming a commissaire, completing the Assistant MTB DH/4X or XC Commissaire course puts you on the commissaire pathway to officiate at events throughout the UK. The British Cycling course blends pre-course online learning with the face to face delivery of a one day course.

The pre course learning covers areas such as anti-doping, safeguarding and protecting children as well as conflict management.  This enables the day to focus on the roles and responsibilities of a Commissaire, pre, during and post event.

Once candidates have completed the course they will be fully fledged Assistant Commissaires. In order to then progress up the pathway as seen below, practical experience is gained shadowing active volunteers.

Upon completion you will need to attend 3-6 events depending on the discipline to progress to the regional level.
