Welsh Cycling is happy to announce we will be running our first Ride Leadership Course in Ammanford on Saturday 19th September. This course has been run here previously as part of Breeze Network, but never as a stand-alone course. This course will help to make our club runs and group rides safer.

The Ride Leadership Award is aimed at both males and females new to leading groups of recreational cyclists and has been designed to focus on producing competent ride leaders who can promote the benefits and joys of cycling in urban environments. The Ride Leader course is predominantly tailored towards leading rides in urban settings and covers essential techniques for leading groups on the road in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Our second new workshop coming to Wales is the Madison Training Workshop on Sunday 20 September. This 6 hour workshop will further develop the skills of our Level 2 Track coaches in order for them to deliver high quality sessions with Madison skills built in.

Our final announcement is that through British Cycling, we are pleased to be running 4 of the very popular Chimp Management workshops in Newport. Chimp Management was devised by Prof. Steve Peters, a vital cog in the success at British Cycling and SkyPro Cycling. The workshops will be delivered by Chimp Management, a company established by Peters in 2011. The mind management programme outlined in Peters’ hugely successful book, The Chimp Paradox, is at the core of Chimp Management’s practice.

Workforce Officer Alistair Waldron is pleased to be expanding the courses available in Wales; “We have established a core Coach Education package which is proving successful. Adding in further CPD with the Chimp Management and Madison is then very exciting, whilst the Ride Leadership adds a new dimension to what we offer."

If you are interested in attending any of the above courses, or would like further information, please contact Alistair Waldron alistair.waldron@welshcycling.co.uk
