Daniel Munson Memorial Youth Track Races

Event:23/10/10
Photos:

In memory of young cyclist Daniel Munson, Newport Velo in conjunction with Welsh Cycling staged a youth track event to remember the young rider in the best possible way.

The Daniel Munson Rose Bowl, Plaques and medals

Riders from all over the UK converged on Newport for the special event and they certainly put on fantastic display of racing for the crowd in the stands and Daniels parents who presented the trophies at the end of the day.

The event will now be run annually as part of the Welsh youth track racing programme. Events were run in a best of 3 Scratch race format with a Devil at the end to decide the final overall points. A Rose bowl in memory of Daniel was up for grabs to the most deserving overall point's winner of the day. This was awarded to Dan Marshall of BCDS. Dan was delighted to win the trophy after a brave effort in the final event saw him pip Robert McKenzie to the win on count back in the devil.

Tristan Robbins in the Youth B Boys category dominated his age group by winning all 4 events, as did Emily Haycox in the Youth B Girls along with Jack Plumley and Sophie Capewell in the Youth C age group. The winners may have won all of their races but all were pushed by determined opponents. Robbins certainly had to use his speed against a fast finishing Jacob Kelly. Haycox had to watch Emily Capewell closely at all times for surprise attacks. The young Tillett brothers worked well to try and over haul Plumley and Cori Robbins was determined to do her best not let Sophie Capewell have it all her own way. All of this made for some exciting, fast racing.

Newport Velo and Welsh Cycling would like to thank all of the riders and parents for supporting the event and we will look forward to seeing you again next year to remember Daniel Munson with some racing action.
