The 2016 Icebreaker Series kicks off this weekend, with 200 youth and junior cyclists racing at Wales National Velodrome, Newport.

The seventh edition of the series opens 30-31 January 2016 and consists of three rounds at the Wales National Velodrome for youth cyclists, and two rounds for junior cyclists. For 2016, the junior programme has expanded to include 200m TT, match sprint and keirin events for the sprinters and an endurance omnium comprising long scratch, points and elimination.

Youth and junior competition is fierce, with a selection of the junior and youth A riders returning from the HOY Future Stars championship at Revolution Series. This will add to the competition and prove for exciting racing over the weekend, with more opportunities for younger cyclists to get involved in the event.

Racing begins at 9.30am on Saturday and 9.00am on Sunday and is free to spectate. Full race information is available here. Round 2 takes place 27-28 February 2016 and concludes with Round 3 on Saturday 26 March 2016.
